Swimming has many health benefits. These include lowering cholesterol, raising heart rate without impacting joints or frail bones, building endurance, muscle strength, and cardiovascular health, and maintaining healthy weight. In addition to the health benefits, there are significant mental health benefits as well. As endorphins are released, stress is reduced and the body is able to relax. In my experience, swimming helps to lower anxiety and improve sleep patterns.
"Swimming has its education value--mental, moral, and physical--in giving you a sense of mastery over an element, and of power of saving life and in the development of wind and limb."
-Robert Baden-Powell, Boy Scout founder
